London at Christmas
London at Christmas is just magical, it really gets you in the Christmas spirit in the run up to the festive period.
Last week my partner and I visited London and we had the best time, we crammed in so much we needed another break when we returned home. With so much to do, this city is one of the best spots to indulge and take advantage of all the wonderful places to visit.
How To Get There :
Travelling from the North West is super easy, Preston and Manchester have direct trains which means you can be in the Capital within two hours and 10 minutes. A little hack for you, did you know Friday - Sunday Avanti West offer an upgrade for £30 to Premium Class or First class per passenger.
First Stop :
Once we arrived in Euston, we grabbed an Uber to our first hotel, The Langham. The Langham, London is truly a London icon. With the recent addition of a new spa, Chuan Body + Soul, this hotel has certainly evolved to one of London's finest. On arrival we were greeted by the lovely door staff and taken through the hotel lobby which looked like a winter wonderland. I couldn’t take my eyes off the stunning decorations throughout the hotel. We were lucky enough to receive a complimentary room upgrade and this didn’t disappoint. With having so much crammed into our weekend, we cracked open the complimentary Champagne in the room and got ready to head out for dinner.
On this particular night we had made a reservation at one of London's dining hot spots in Berkeley Square, Sexy Fish. If you are wanting somewhere with a lively ambience, and great food this is a must go and the food is out of this world. After dinner we fancied a few drinks so headed out to Mayfair and had a few (too many) cocktails at the Mayfair Hotel and Sketch, then back to the Langham Bar for a few more G&T’s.
What To Do :
It wouldn’t be a trip to London without the theatre booked. Shaking off the mild hangover, we headed to the Savoy for a pre theatre lunch at the River Bar then walked over to the Theatre to watch Pretty Woman. What a show! If you’re heading to London before the end of March this is a must see and I promise you won’t be disappointed. After the show we wandered round Trafalgar Square and Covent Garden and they had wonderful Christmas Market pop ups which just added to the festive spirit.
Next Stop :
After checking out of The Langham it was time to check into our next hotel where we would be spending our last two nights, The Corinthia. The Corinthia is one of my favourite hotels in London, great location and it just oozes luxury. Their attention to detail and world class service really sets this hotel apart from others in the City. We walked into our suite and the hotel knew it was our anniversary and a fresh bouquet of flowers, cake and an iced bottle of Laurent Perrier was waiting for us along with a hand written note. After checking into the room it was time to head down to the Winter Garden to enjoy a few mulled wines before heading out to Dinner at Hakkasan Hanway Place.
The winter garden is like stepping into a wintery, alpine dream. The roaring fireplaces and alpaca blankets really made you think you were in a winter haven in the heart of London. A must have is the Spiced Mulled wine! We had friends joining us for dinner and decided to head back to the hotel to enjoy our suite, I had my eye on the bath from the minute I walked in and it didn’t disappoint especially with the inbuilt tv so I could catch up on the finale of I'm A Celeb.
After a good night's sleep we had a full day of shopping planned. First stop at Harrods, then we wandered around Oxford street and Bond Street taking in all the designer flagship stores and their beautiful window displays. After many hours of shopping it was time to grab some food and we already had a reservation at the Brasserie of Light in Selfridges.
With a number of shopping bags, we headed back to Corinthia and decided to take advantage of the Espa Spa. This spa is probably one of the best I've been to, with a large plunge pool, sauna and steam Room and relaxation pods - what a better way to relax after a busy day of shopping. All guests have free access to the spa but pre-booking is a must so don’t forget to book your slot in the morning so you don’t miss out. In room dining at Corinthia is something different, they have a full Lebanese dining experience and with us having the suite we wanted to take advantage of this delicious in room dining service and room for the evening. Robes on, Champagne popped, we decided a chilled night is what we needed for our last night.
